two people on a water slide

Summer is almost here and we’re ready to put the past behind us as quickly and as safely as possible. One of the best ways to do this is enjoy a sunny day at Aquatica and race with friends down Riptide Race. The newest slide at the family-friendly park pairs teams of two against each other to see who can who can make it to the end of the 68-foot tall slide first.

Family-Friendly Waterpark

Aquatica is known for being one of the best family-friendly water parks in Orlando. It was also the first to be designated as an autism-friendly theme park. Some of its other famous features are its permanent residents—the Commerson dolphins which guests zip past while on the Dolphin Plunge. Probably Aquatica’s greatest feature is in the engineering of the rides and attractions. The rides are thrilling but not so daring as to appeal only to hardcore thrill seekers. Other parks take the helm for those seeking a jolt of an adrenaline rush. Aquatica gets its thrill levels right for families, but that doesn’t mean it’ll push the envelope.

Riptide Race

Unlike any other water slide in Central Florida, teams of two will race each other down the 68-foot tall slide through a maze of twists and turns. Downhill races take place safely inside a tube, so you won’t see your fellow racers until you zip past open stretches. If you look fast enough, you can look to your side to make sure you’re ahead of the competition.

More than a Race?

There’s speculation Aquatica has more up its sleeve in conjunction with Riptide Race. Along with the news of this dueling slide came the cryptic project “AQO 2020” or “Project North Beach.” Some people think this “North Beach” will include another slide like Ilhu’s Breakaway Falls, but the new slide is taller at 80 feet. The project is still in a pre-construction phase, so we’ll have to wait a few years to see how these plans materialize.
