Anastasia at the Dr. Phillips Center

This spring, take a journey to the past with the touring production of the international hit musical, Anastasia. The show will run from May 14 through May 19 at the Dr. Phillips Center’s Walt Disney Theater in the heart of Downtown Orlando. Set at the fall of Imperial Russia, this production explores the legend of the Duchess Anastasia Romanov through wonderful scenery, unforgettable performances, and soaring musical numbers.

A Rich Musical History

First appearing on Broadway at the Broadhurst Theatre in 2017, Anastasia is based on the 1997 animated film of the same name. Fans of the film will recognize some of the classic songs in the production, including “A Rumor in St. Petersburg,” “Journey to the Past,” and of course “Once Upon a December.” The stage musical has become an international sensation with productions playing in the United States, Spain, and Germany, and more productions set to open in Korea, Japan, Brazil, Mexico, Holland, and Australia.

The cast for the United States tour includes Lila Coogan as Anya, Stephen Brower as Dmitry, and Joy Franz as Dowager Empress. With a rewritten libretto by Terrence McNally and music and lyrics by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, this show is not to be missed.

A Journey to the Past

The story follows Anya, an orphan living in soviet Russia as she adventures to find the truth behind her mysterious past. Along the way, she enlists the help of the charming conman Dmitry and a former member of the Imperial Court, Vlad. The trio will piece together the fragments of Anya’s memories as they evade Glab Vaganov, a general for the Bolsheviks, as he attempts to fulfill his orders to dispose of Anya. Their journey will take them from the streets of St. Petersburg and into the glamour of 1920’s Paris, France as they search for the home of Anya’s dreams.
